An embarrassing 5-1 defeat dented Arsenal’s hopes of progress through to the all-important quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League last evening. Alexis Sanchez got one back but the home team took a four-goal lead at the Allianz Arena.
An outstanding finish from Arjen Robben gave Bayern the lead in the 11th minute but Sanchez got one back for Arsenal from the penalty box. The visitors were the happier bunch at the halfway mark. However, Lewandowski’s 53rd minute finish gave Bayern a well deserved lead as they kept inching towards a goal from the very beginning of the 2nd half.
Thiago Alcántara scored two more in the 56th and 63rd minute to make it 4-1. Finally, Thomas Müller finished it off with a brilliant finish in the 88th minute.
Alternatively, Benfica got the better of Dortmund as Real Madrid outclassed Napoli.
