After a terrible first innings collapse, the Indian openers made good use of the conditions to take the home side to a fantastic position on Day 1 of the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
At the end of the day’s play, India were 171 for 1 with a lead of 49 and 9 wickets in hand.
From here a draw seems likely but India will look to score quickly to put Sri Lanka under pressure.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will try to minimise the run flow to fancy their chances after all the hard work in the first innings.
“Feeling good and bad both. Of course, it’s disappointing when you’re so close to the century and miss out. But we’ve made a game of this, so I’m happy. We’re going to be positive tomorrow and try to make a match of it. We’re going to go for it,” said Shikhar Dhawan.
