Vice captain Dinesh Chandimal will be replaced by 19 year old Wanindu Hasaranga who is set to make his debut in the 1st One Day International against Zimbabwe at the Galle International Stadium on the 30th of June 2017.
If given the opportunity, the teenager will have the privilege to play at home in conditions that suit him the most.
“Wanidu has been playing well. He has been one of the best fielders in Sri Lanka right now, he’s batting well, in form and he has that option of leg-spin bowling,” said cricket manager Asanka Gurusinha at a recent press briefing.
Hasaranga has 775 runs in 12 First class matches with a high score of 116*. He also has 16 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 3.52 runs per over.
Moreover, Hasaranga is well known for his agility on the field.
The leg-spinning all-rounder was a stand out performer for Sri Lanka Under-19 and his school Richmond College in the recent past.
Nevertheless, he will have to do well to retain his place in the squad for the third, fourth and the fifth ODI.
