Top order batsman Kusal Mendis fell inches short of his maiden double century as Sri Lanka extended their first innings score past 450 on Day 2 of the 1st Test against Bangladesh at the Galle International Stadium. The hosts were 480 for the loss of 8 wickets short while ago.
Winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka lost three quick wickets but Kusal Mendis steadied the innings alongside Asela Gunaratne. A quick counter from Niroshan Dickwella took Sri Lanka to an excellent position in session one of Day 2.
However, Mendis and Dickwella’s wicket failed to dent Sri Lanka as the stubborn tail resisted with tremendous intent.
If the tigers fail to bag three more wickets, Sri Lanka will look to declare after crossing the 500 run mark.
