Nimali Waliwarsha Konda was adjudged as the winner of the women’s 800m race after India’s Archana Adhav was found guilty of pushing her before overtaking near the finish line in the Asian Athletics Championship in Bhubaneswar.
Nimali initially made a complaint against 22-year-old Archana who was later disqualified from the race.
The Sri Lankan athlete finished the race in 2:05:23s. Gayanthika Thushari, also from Sri Lanka won the silver medal. Japan’s Fumika Omori was awarded Bronze. Gayanthika finished the race in 2:05:27s.
India later applied to reconsider but the judges were happy with their decision.
