Head Coach Nic Pothas pulled out of travelling to Lahore for the final Twenty20 amid concerns from his family. He will be with the team in the UAE but will return to Sri Lanka after the 2nd Twenty20.
“For me, my family comes first. Everyone gets a chance to make their own decisions. No one should be forced to do anything that they are not comfortable with. It was not an easy decision to make. It has to be respected,” said Pothas. (Cricbuzz).
He also said that the board wanted everyone to go but didn’t force or pressurize him to do anything.
Batting coach Hashan Tillekeratne or Rumesh Rathnayake will take over the team in Lahore. Thisara Perera will lead the side for the very first time with the experience of Seekuge Prasanna and Danushka Gunathilaka.
“I am really happy. I’m really proud of myself because everyone has a dream to be a captain anywhere. This was my dream, and it has come true. I’m really happy at the moment,” said Perera.
Sri Lanka will play Pakistan in the 3rd Twenty20 in Lahore on the 29th of October 2017.
