Kagiso Rabada’s 10 wicket haul wrapped up Sri Lanka’s innings on the 4th Day of the 2nd Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Newlands, Cape Town last evening. With that win, South Africa went two nil up in the three match series.
Throughout the Test, the South Africans were all over the Sri Lankan batsman who lacked intent and determination. As a result, the Lankan batsman lost stability and gave away their wickets.
They were left with an absolutely difficult task of chasing down a score of over 500. Captain Angelo Mathews resisted alongside Dinesh Chandimal but failed to get a score past 50.
The visitors were eventually bowled out for 224 as South Africa completed an impressive win by a margin of 282 runs.
“Disappointing, after winning the toss and having the advantage in the first session. Once again our batters have let the team down, haven’t got enough runs on the board to give the bowlers a chance. We haven’t concentrated for long hours, trying to hit good balls and getting nicked. [Kumara performance?] Just 19 years of age and bowling really well, taking six-for was fantastic. Credit to Rabada, the way he bowled in the second innings was brilliant. The bowlers have given us a chance but the batters haven’t given the bowlers a chance, so that’s what we need to change,” said Angelo Mathews.
