Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to beat Juventus 4-1 as Real Madrid became back to back UEFA Champions League winners at Cardiff during the weekend. The side received a hero’s welcome as they returned to Spain with the trophy.
The Spaniards were on the front foot as they held on to possession in the first quarter of the game. Cristiano Ronaldo’s fine finish in the 20th minute gave them an early lead. Seven minutes later, Mandzukic levelled with an acrobatic finish. His stunner of a goal made Juventus believe on an upset.
At the half way mark, the scores remained 1-1.
A well timed finish from Casemiro gave Real Madrid the lead in the 60th minute of the game. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second to make it 3-1 four minutes later. Finally, Asensio finished things off in style scoring the fourth for Madrid in the 90th minute.
Juan Cuadrado was red carded in the 83rd minute of the game.
“I prepared for this, and we knew that the big trophies are won right at the end. Zidane spoke to us positively and transmitted his belief to us. We’re the first team to win the Champions League two years running, I scored two goals in the final and I’m the top scorer in the competition this season, so I’m happy,” said Cristiano Ronaldo.
