Thus far, the singer schools rugby league has turned out to be a very interesting affair for almost every side. Exciting finishes and nail biting contests have kept the fans on the edge of their seats as we approach week four. Here is a summary of how some schools have performed this season.
Royal College Colombo
With three big wins in the three games played, Royal College takes top spot to remain hot favorites for the title. However, the two narrow wins against St Peter’s and Dharmaraja College Kandy has highlighted the side’s injury concerns this year. Ovin Askey has been a stand out performed for Royal this season and he will hold key in the upcoming matches.
Isipathana College Colombo
With three hard fought wins, last year’s champions Isipathana is another side in control this season. Though they don’t appear like powerpacks this season, the comeback wins against Dharmaraja and St.Joseph’s has taken them to the top. Led by Rankothge, Isipathana College has good control with Chamod Fernando and Harith Bandara in the side.
St. Joseph’s College Maradana
Coached by the well known Nilufer Ibrahim, the Josephians were expected to do wonders this season but ended up losing the two encounters they faced. Much will be expected from them this week.
St. Anthony’s College, Kandy
With just one win in three matches, the Antonians will look to put the game against Isipathana to bed as they were beaten 43-35 from 43-13 at one stage. Samuel Maduwantha will have to step up to stabilize the Antonians this season.
Trinity College Kandy
After a solid comeback against Zahira College last week, Trinity will have their hopes high with an unbeaten record so far. They are definite challengers for the title this season.
St. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia
With one close with and an unbelievable loss to Wesley college, the Thomians are not at their best so far. However, with Naveen Heenakamnagame in the side, it’s likely that they’d bounce back any time soon.
Losing to Zahira and Trinity, Science only has one win under their name. The side has great potential but only the right determination turn the tables for them this season.
Results don’t indicate how good this team has been so far. They were considered underdogs after being promoted to A Division this season. However, they’ve been the surprise package so far.
With just one win and two close losses in the three games, Zahira will look to hold their nerves to bag a few wins in the upcoming games. Coached by master tactician Shamly Nawaz, the side has received amazing fan support so far.
