The Sri Lanka Under-18s Sevens Rugby team has qualified and will take part in the all-important Youth Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held from the 17th to the 23rd of July 2017 in the Bahamas. It will be the toughest of tasks for the teenagers who recently bagged the Asian Under-18s Rugby Sevens Series in Hong Kong.
Back then the team was led by S. Thomas’ College winger Naveen Henakankanamge. Sri Lanka rugby will presumably announce the squad for the Youth Commonwealth Games a couple of weeks before departure.
Meanwhile, top countries are set to field solid teams for the tournament this year. However, the young Sri Lankan side has lately displayed the potential to overcome any opponent in the world.
The side will be coached by former Sri Lanka winger M.J.M. Mushtaq.
Nevertheless, Sri Lanka will miss few players from the Asian Sevens Series due to age restriction.
