Sri Lankan batsman Dinesh Chandimal will be replaced by youngster Sandun Weerakkody for the fourth one day international against South Africa. The match is scheduled to be played later today at Cape Town.
With the series already gone, Sri Lanka has nothing to lose in the remaining one day internationals. Therefore, the selectors have decided to drop the underperforming batsman to test youngster Weerakkody’s capabilities.
Chandimal is also in the limelight to miss the all-important Twenty20 series in Australia later this month.
“He is going through a bad patch just as any other cricketer. But we all know how good a cricketer he is and what he has done for the country. So I am sure he will get his form back. I had a chat with him and he seems very low on confidence. So we decided to rest him for today’s game and bring in Sandun Weerakkody,” said chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya (Daily Mirror).
