St. Peter’s College, Colombo clinched the under-19 schools T20 title by beating St. Aloysius’ College, Galle by 38 runs in the final played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on Friday (08/04/2016).
Peters’ who finished as runners-up in the tournament last year, went one step better this time powered by an all-round performance from last year’s captain Chandula Jayamanne who was adjudged man-of-the-match.
The Aloysians who were tagged as the giant killers following their wins over Isipathana College, S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and Trinity College, Kandy en-route to the finals were unable to continue their dream run as they found the Peterites too tough to handle on the day.
Electing to bat first, St. Peter’s College posted a challenging 162/8 in their allotted 20 overs with Chandula Jayamanne hammering 49 off just 24 balls while skipper Vinu Mohotty contributed 40 as Prabodha Madushanka bagged 3/22 for the Aloysians.
Chasing 163, St. Aloysius’ College were able to reach only 124/8 to hand Peters’ the win by 38 runs. Navindu Nirmal top scored for the lads from Galle with 36 while skipper Gihan Niroshan made 27 as man-of-the-match Jayamanne bagged 3/24 for the Peterites.
Also earlier in the day, Trinity College beat Prince of Wales’ College by 4 wickets in their third place play-off encounter.
