The journey so far (Kandy to Arugam Bay)

Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka – Day two of the fascinating expedition, Commando Challenge 2016 came to rest at Sri Lanka’s most beautiful coastal destination Arugam Bay on the 4th of October 2016.
Here’s a quite recap on the entertaining events and incidents from Day 1 and Day 2 of this years excursion.
The expedition commenced at the Bogambara Grounds in Kandy as the enthusiastic participants rallied under the supervision of the Commando Regiment on Monday the 3rd of October 2016. With eyes on the first day’s destination, Ulhitiya, we travelled through a scenic route across Wattegama, Sembuwatta, Loggal Oya to the historic Mahiyangana,
Regardless of a few vehicle interruptions, we made it to the beautiful city of Ulhitiya by nightfall. The campsite was well lit with canoes and rifle shooting for entertainment. The delicious dinner and the peaceful environment by the lake ended the day to perfection.
After an early breakfast on Day 2, the rally re-commenced but this time with eyes on the world famous surfing destination, Arugam Bay. The broken roads were followed by a long scenic route across lakes and paddy fields in the eastern part of the island. We arrived by sunset and the setting was even better with DJ music and attractive lights. Alternatively, the beautiful beach made the campsite look picture perfect.
Meanwhile, tomorrow’s journey is expected to cover a distance of over 140kms as we head to the Commando training school at Uva Kudaoya.
