An outstanding bowling performance from Hayley Mathews and Stefanie Taylor led the West Indies to an easy 6 wickets win in the first match at the Brian Lara Stadium last evening.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the visitors were well on their way to a solid start but Chamari Atapattu’s dismissal led to a series of wickets in the middle overs of the innings. Atapattu made 25 in 44 deliveries for Sri Lanka.
Mathews and Taylor bagged three wickets apiece to restrict the lady lions to 136.
In response, a couple of early wickets had the hosts on the back foot but all they needed was one solid partnership. Merissa Aguilleira’s unbeaten 32 led the home team to an easy 6 wicket win with over 10 overs to spare.
