Long jumper Amila Jayasiri covered a distance of 7.45m to win silver in the Men’s Long Jump event at the ongoing Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Amila’s medal was the first for Sri Lanka in this year’s meet. However, the lack of medals have pushed Sri Lanka to 23rd place in the rankings.
NGUYEN Tien Trong won Gold covering a distance of 7.48m while CHAN Ming Tai was placed third.
Originally from Dankotuwa, Amila worked in the Air Force before winning bronze in the South Asian Games in 2016. He holds the record in long jump (8.15m).
Moreover, middle distance runner Indunil Herath will compete in the Men’s 800m finals later today. He won the semi-finals clocking his personal best, 1 minute and 50.91 seconds.
