Sri Lanka got the better of Bangladesh to get off to an excellent start in their quest to defend the all-important title in the opening game of the Redbull Campus Cricket 2017 – World Finals played at the Colts Cricket Grounds over the weekend. The home side outclassed Bangladesh by 47 runs.
In the matches that were played elsewhere, South Africa, UAE and Pakistan recorded wins over Australia, Zimbabwe, and India.
Batting first, a couple of good starts led Sri Lanka to an excellent total of 188 for 7 in 20 overs. Janith Liyanage made 40 in just 33 deliveries for the home side.
In response, Bangladesh matched Sri Lanka and at one point they were in a better position with a score of over 50 in just the 6th over of the innings. However, an unexpected collapse led Sri Lanka to an easy 47 runs win.
Janith Liyanage was adjudged player of the match.
