Athletic Coach A J Rodrigo, one of the island’s finest of all time passed away at the age of 73 after a brief illness.
He was known for producing a number of world-class athletes including the ones who represented Sri Lanka in the Olympic Games.
He was known for his generosity and dedication towards uplifting the standard of sports in Sri Lanka.
Rodrigo was involved in coaching for a period of three decades. Nadeeka Lakmali who represented Sri Lanka in the Beijing Olympics was Rodrigo’s student.
A J Rodrigo was also the national record holder in discuss throw in the year 1978.
