Well constructed tons from Jonathon Merio and Jack Edwards gave Australia Under 19 the edge on Day 1 of the only youth test against Sri Lanka at Kingston Twin Ovals, Hobart earlier today. With three important wickets under his name, Nipun Ransika emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka U19.
Ransika’s brilliant spell gave Sri Lanka the edge in the 1st session as the hosts lost four quick wickets for 112 in the 37th over of the game. However, Jonathon Merio and Jack Edwards’ partnership was a tad too strong for the visitors. The home side declared at 309 for the loss of just 6 wickets.
In response, Sri Lanka lost Lasith Croospulle in just the 4th over of the innings. At the end of the day’s play, the visitors were a wicket down for 38 in 8 overs.
With nine wickets in hand, Sri Lanka will look to ease towards Australia’s first-innings score on Day 2.
