They say people are built to run. Experts believe our human bodies are shaped and designed the way they are because we’re evolved to be endurance runners. So its probably no surprise that running rewards you with a lot of benefits, both physically and mentally. But then again, if you haven’t been running in a while, getting used to it can be quite challenging. In Sri Lanka, communities like the Colombo City Running group aims to help with this.
Colombo City Running (CCR) club
Kicking off a little over 3 years ago, the community has been growing strong ever since. But in case you didn’t know already, the CCR is a community of running enthusiasts based in Colombo. The group aims to promote and improve running in Colombo. They offer run training, support, and advice for anyone of all ages. Among their usual routines is the city run, which is a 5 km run that happens on a monthly basis.
As part of a social cause, CCR is organizing the CCR 5K & 10K run for the month of July. So regardless of whether you’re a professional athlete or a running enthusiast, the event is an open invitation to anyone even remotely interested in running.
The run to Port Breakwater
Every now and then, the group organizes runs in aid of a social cause. You might remember their Let’s give them a LIFT! run back in October last year. This July, the CCR 10k & 5K will take a similar tone.
Organized in partnership with the Army Para Athletic Association, the run will take place on the 29th of July, at 6.00 AM. It will kickstart at Galle Face and end up in Port Breakwater. Here, runners will have the unique opportunity of getting to run inside the Colombo Port.
Registrations are currently open and tickets are priced at Rs. 1,000. So if you’re thinking of making it, you can head over here. If you register before the 8th of July, you get a free t-shirt too.
