After an excellent display of batting, Dimuth Karunaratne fell seven runs short of his century, misjudging a run with captain Dinesh Chandimal in the non striker’s end. Chandimal stayed till the end of the day to finish at 227 for 4.
Chandimal was unbeaten with 60 off 190 deliveries while Niroshan Dickwella made 42 off 63.
With just the tail in the tank, Sri Lanka desperately need a partnership to post a score of over 400.
Yasir Shah emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan on day one with figures of 2 for 59. Hassan Ali was among the wickets as well.
“We just need to bat for longer periods of time. When we played against India, we were not able to get big totals. That was the difference and it doesn’t matter if we take time. We can capitalise later on,” said Karunaratne speaking to Gulf News after the day’s play.
