Premier League side Chelsea showcased unexpected dominance over Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in week two of the UEFA Champions League groups stage away from home.
Manchester United and Paris Saint German were on top of their game as well.
Antonio Conte’s side dominated the first half in Madrid but an unnecessary foul gave Atletico an early boost as Antoine Griezmann found the back of the net from the penalty spot. The Blues continued to make inroads with Alvaro Morata scoring early in the second half to make it 1-1.
Both sides had chances in the latter part of the game but the visitors pulled off a late stunner, passing the ball back and forth in the 94th minute of the game. Michy Batshuayi scored the winner for Chelsea.
“There will be bigger tests further down the line. And to be fair to Chelsea, that’s the first time I’ve seen this Atletico Madrid defensive unit get torn apart,” said Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
“Even Real Madrid and Barcelona, I’ve never seen them two sides, who are the best in the world, do that to Atletico so it was some performance,” he added.
In Moscow, Manchester United made it look ever so easy, beating CSKA Moscow 4-1. PSG outclassed Bayern Munich 3-0 with Neymar and Cavani in the scoresheet.
