In 2017, Zahira College returned to top division rugby after 14 years and to remain in the division for one more year is an excellent achievement. They will look to end the season in a high by getting the better of Trinity College at Pallekale on June 9.
With only two wins in the season so far, the boys have failed to deliver particularly due to a few judgemental errors but have shown excellent character and spirit throughout the season. If not for the poor decision making, many games would have turned in their favor.
They were also part of a few controversial moments, especially in the game against St. Joseph’s College earlier in the league.
Muhammar Deen has done a fantastic job leading the side with the assistance of some good forwards and the team was able to make a few eye-catching tries against top defensive units this year.
One of the main gestures least signified by the Rugby Fraternity was the hospitality. Like in 2017, after a home game, a dinner was organized for the visiting side followed by a fellowship event to strengthen the unity among schools, players and support staff. They believe gestures as such can avoid clashes between school in the course of a match.
If the side manages to beat Trinity, they’ll end the season with 3 wins.
“We invite well-wishers, old boys and the rugby-loving community of Zahira to cheer the boys in their last game of
the season as the team attempts to do their best to finish the league on a winning note,” said Rishad Thahir from the Rugby Committee Of Zahira College, Maradana.
