Conducted by the Ministry of Education, the 33rd edition of the All-Island School Games will be held from tomorrow (Oct 11th) to the 15th at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex, Diyagama.
A total of 5,121 athletes will participate in five different age categories, namely Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20 (girls and boys). With 15 team events, a total of 28 sports events are set to be conducted.
However, Diyagama will only host track and field events from the 11th to the 15th of this month.
As the chief guest. President Maithripala Sirisena will be present on the final day of the meet.
Nevertheless, there will be no new records as the age categories have been changed. The performances from this year’s meet will be considered as records in the following year.
Last year’s meet was held at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy and was conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association. Western Province won the championship with a total of 855 Points (Girl’s 353, Boy’s 502). Central Province came second with 492 points.
