The Sri Lanka Football Federation is all set to recruit two foreign coaches ahead of the all-important South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championships next year. The recruits are likely to be from Europe.
Furthermore, one of the two are believed to be a specialist in fitness.
After 1995, Sri Lanka has never won a SAFF championship and in 2015 they lost 5-0 to Afghanistan in the semi-finals. Sri Lanka’s international record has continued to dip and is in need of immediate attention.
“The fitness of Sri Lanka football players is not up to the mark and they are unable to keep up the fitness level to the required 90 minutes. It is during the dying minutes that the goals are scored against us. Due to this we are hoping to lay special emphasis to fitness this time,” said Jaswar Umar, Secretary General FFSL. (The Sunday Times).
