While the Sri Lanka Super Provincial tournament is in full swing, the international arena is all about the Indian Premier League these days. At the end of the first set of IPL 2018 games, the reigning champions, Mumbai Indians are well and truly in trouble at the bottom of the table with just 4 points out of the 8 games played. Meanwhile, the underdogs Sunrises Hyderabad are on top with just two defeats in 8 games. Except for Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and the Delhi Daredevils, all other teams have completed 8 games a piece. CSK, KKR, and DD played their 9th game earlier this week. Kings Xi Punjab, yet to play their 8th this season are 3rd in the points table with just 2 defeats.
As it stands, Sunrises Hyderabad and the Chennai Super Kings are favorites to go through to the knockouts with Kings XI Punjab in the vicinity. Kolkata Knight Riders with 4 defeats will have to fight Royal Challengers Bangalore for a place in the top 4. A couple of wins may also boost the Rajasthan Royals, currently in 7th place.
Moreover, with just 2 wins, the Mumbai Indians are not far away from elimination. They can still bounce back but today’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore is a must win.
A win for Mumbai today will leave RCB, DD, and MI with the same number of points. Rajasthan Royals, also at 6 points will take on Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.
Prediction Time – Who will make it to the top 4?
The Sunrises Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab are in control but we predict RCB will finish ahead of KKR this season. So the four teams will be,
- Sunrises Hyderabad
- Kings XI Punjab
- Chennai Super Kings
- Royal Challengers Bangalore
However, today’s crucial game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians will decide the fate of both sides and their chances in IPL 2018.
