A century stand from Upul Tharanga extended the Sri Lankan first innings score to 537 on Day 2 of the first Test against Zimbabwe at Harare last evening. The home team responded well with the bat but Herath dismissed Brian Chari. At the end of the day’s play, the Zimbabweans were 88 for the loss of 1 wicket.
Batting first, the visitors got off to an excellent start but lost Dimuth Karunaratne at 123. Kusal Perera and Kaushal Silva made good progress towards the latter part of Day 1. Perera got to his hundred in quick fashion.
Returning batsman Upul Tharanga steadied the Sri Lankan innings on Day 2 alongside debutant Asela Gunaratne. Tharanga got to a steady hundred but Gunaratne was dismissed at 54.
Sri Lanka eventually made 537 in 155 overs.
Graeme Cremer emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe, bagging 4 for 142 in 42 overs. As we approach Day 3, Mawoyo remains unbeaten alongside the experienced Hamilton Masakadza.
