Zlatan Ibrahimovic steered Manchester United to a narrow 3-2 win against Southampton to clinch the all-important English Football League Cup Trophy at Wembley last evening. The Saints were equally competitive but Ibrahimovic displayed his quality with two goals to put the Red Devils on top.
This win marks Jose Mourinho’s first major trophy with Manchester United.
A stunning free kick from Ibrahimovic gave Manchester United the lead in the 19th minute before Jesse Lingard’s 38th minute strike made it two nil. A tap from Manolo Gabbiadini in the 36th minute got the Saints back in the game.
Three minutes to the second half Gabbiadini scored his second to level the scoreline. The Saints had plenty of chances but failed to find the back of the net.
Ibrahimovic’s 87th minute header sealed the game for the Red Devils.
