With the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League in full force, we decided to come up with our own IPL all-time XI. Our selections may vary from yours, so feel free to get back to us with your own IPL all-time XI.
First to make it to the side, Chris Gayle is the most explosive batsman in world cricket. He averages 42, strikes at over 150, has 21 half centuries and 5 centuries under his name.
Gayle played for the Kolkata Knight Riders before becoming a long-standing member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore side. He is now part of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab.
Gayle has scored over 3500 runs alone in the IPL.
During his short IPL career, the master blaster has over 750 runs at a scoring rate of 144.36. He has 4 fifties and 1 hundred under his name. In 2008, Sanath scored a ton for the Mumbai Indians and it came in just 45 deliveries.
He also has 13 wickets to his name in the Premier League.
Arguably the best batsman in world cricket, Kohli takes the vital no.3 spot ahead of Kumar Sangakkara, Kane Williamson, Rahul Dravid and his teammate Rohit Sharma.
Kohli has scored over 4300 runs at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 130 in 148 games in the tournament. He has 29 fifties and 4 centuries as well. The RCB skipper is still at his very best in limited overs cricket.
AB De Villiers
Again from the Royal Challengers Bangalore, AB De Villiers was also known as Mr 360 has all it takes to win matches just by himself. In 129 IPL internationals, De Villers has scored over 3500 runs at a strike rate of over 148. He averages 38, has 22 fifties and 3 centuries under his name.
De Villiers is in good form and still has plenty left to offer in the Indian Premier League.
All-round sensation Suresh Raina takes the No.5 spot in our all-time XI. Raina is one of the leading run scorers in the IPL and has played the most number of matches over the 11 seasons.
Raina averages over 34 and has over 4500 runs with a high score of 100. He has 31 fifties and 1 ton under his name. Raina has spent 90% of his IPL career with the Chennai Super Kings
Another match-winning allrounder who has played for the Mumbai Indian, Gujarat Lions, and the Chennai Super Kings in his long IPL career. Known for his heroics with the ball and at the end of an innings, DJ Bravo has over 1200 runs in 106 games.
Let it be the Mumbai Indians or the Chennai Super Kings, the West Indian has seen both teams through to unbelievable wins in the league.
In the ongoing IPL 11, Bravo not once but twice took the Super Kings to a couple of remarkable wins in the dying moments of the game.
MS Dhoni (C)
Under MSD, the Super Kings were crowned IPL Champs in 2010 and 2011. Also known for his ability to finish a game, Dhoni brings huge experience whenever he occupies the crease.
He has over 3500 runs in over 155 games at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 136 or above. MS Dhoni has 17 IPL fifties as well.
Ravi Ashwin is another CSK sensation who currently plays as skipper of the Kings XI Punjab outfit. He has long been Dhoni’s companion and Chennai has helped him develop his game over the past decade.
Ashwin has played over 100 IPL matches and has over a hundred wickets under his name.
The West Indian mystery spinner, hard to pick, has now developed into a top-order batsman for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Narine doesn’t just bamboozle batsman but also thrashes frontline bowlers out of the park in the IPL.
Sunil Narine is the first foreign spinner to reach the 100 wicket mark in the league. He has played over 79 games since his debut in 2012.
Less experienced but very useful at the death, Jasprit Bumrah takes the no.10 spot in our IPL all-time XI. Bumrah has 49 wickets in 50 games, not extraordinary but effective at crucial moments of the game.
Yet to hit the peak of his career, Bumrah has plenty to offer for Mumbai Indians and the league itself.
The slinga, also the most valuable player in the Indian Premier League will make it to anyone’s all-time XI without a doubt. Malinga has over 15o wickets for the Mumbai Indians in just 107 games with a remarkable economy rate of 6.90.
He is probably the best T20 bowler of all time.
