The Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals finished 3rd and 4th after Chennai Super Kings and the Sunrisers Hyderabad overran all other teams in IPL 11.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier at the Wankhede Stadium tomorrow. On the following day, the Knight Riders will lock horns with the Royals at Eden Gardens and the losing side will crash out of the tournament.
Afterward, the losing side in the 1st qualifier will play against the winners in the eliminator to book a place in the all-important finals against the winners of the qualifier.
Earlier this week, three out of the four eliminated side were in contention for a place in the playoffs but all three sides failed to find one last win after doing all the hard work.
The Royal Challengers with an excellent net run rate were outsmarted by the Rajasthan Royals when all they needed was a win to get through to the playoffs.
“Too much batting stress on just AB de Villiers. I thought we were in a great position at one stage. We were 75 for 1, the way we were bundled out after that wasn’t ideal,” said skipper Virat Kohli after the defeat.
The RCB defeat gave Mumbai the upper hand but they too were kicked out by the Daredevils at the bottom of the table. Iyer’s side won by 11 runs last evening.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings tried a few tricks against Kings XI in the last group stage match and it turned out well. MS Dhoni promoted Harbajan Singh and Chahar ahead of Dwayne Bravo and himself, chasing a score of 154. They got to the target with five deliveries to spare.
Either CSK or SRH will make it to the finals tomorrow and our bet is on Williamson’s orange army. However, CSK has vast expertise in the side in comparison.
