Veteran spinner Rangana Herath will not take part in the third test due to an unfortunate back injury he sustained in the recently concluded test in Colombo. Ravindra Jadeja will also miss the final test due to suspension.
The Indian spinner threw the ball back at batsman Dimuth Karunaratne in what umpires deemed to be a dangerous manner.
Jadeja was also involved in a previous breach of the players’ code of conduct in a game against New Zealand. As a result, he gets a one-match suspension and will be fined 50 percent of his match fee.
Jadeja played a key role in India’s dominant wins over Sri Lanka in the two concluded Tests.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will compete at Pallekale without spinner Rangana Herath and Nuwan Pradeep. Their replacements are yet to be announced.
“This is where our player management comes in because we don’t want to break anyone. We made the call not to risk Herath because he’s also bowled close to 200 overs in the three Tests. That’s a lot for his body,” said Cricket Manager Asanka Gurusinha.
