Peter Trego’s 80 followed by supporting knocks from Johann Myburgh, Jim Allenby and Mahela Jayawardene took Somerset through to the quarterfinals of the Royal London Cup courtesy of a 33-run DLS victory over Glamorgan in Taunton last evening.
Batting first, Trego’s knock helped Somerset post 322 in the given 50 overs. Jayawardena’s quickfire 37 came off 34 deliveries at a strike rate of 108.82. However, he was bowled by Michael Hogan in the 36th over of the innings.
Hogan bagged 3 for 62 in his 10 over spell for Glamorgan.
In reply, Glamorgan got off to a good start but failed to stay ahead of the run rate amid reduction in the number of overs. Rain interruptions reduced the number of over to 47 but Glamorgan fell 33 runs short of the revised target.
Overton, Gregory and Van Der Merwe bagged 3 wickets each for Somerset.
