Kandy Sports Club continued to go on their merry way beating the Cops 61-20 to stretch their unbeaten streak on week 8 of the Dialog Rugby League in Nittawala last week.
Kandy SC scored from a total of 9 tries, leaving the Cops winless this season. From eight games, Police SC has only accumulated a total of four points. Kandy rested a few of their key players and Richard Dharmapala was chosen to lead the side.
At the end of the first half, Kandy led 28-06 but Nigel Ratwatte’s brilliance gave them another 33 points in the second.
Air Force SC v Havelock SC
Havelock SC got off to an excellent start but Air Force bounced back with a try in the latter part of the first half to finish 14-7. Air Force had Havelock under pressure trailing by 2 points (17-15) early in the second half. However, the introduction of Rahul De Silva steered Havelock SC to an easy win (34-18).
Air Force with just one win in 8 games are in serious trouble and in need of more wins under the belt.
Navy SC v CH & FC
CH & FC gave Navy an unexpected scare but the sailors managed to hold their nerve to finish 27-24 at full time. CH led 17-0 at one stage but Navy bounced back with a try to finish the first half 17-10. CH extended their lead, Navy equally resisted and the score was 24-24 before Thilina’s late kick separated the two teams.
Ravin De Silva was adjudged player of the match.
Army SC vs CR & FC
With a win over the soldiers, CR & FC climbed to fifth place beating CH & FC by a point in the league table. Army SC dropped points and was pushed to 4th place.
CR got the better of Army (24-17) at Havelock Park.
Army gathered an early 7 point lead over CR but Omalka Gunaratne’s late try helped CR end the first half 10-10. The second half was dominated by CR as they cruised to 24 points in no time. Army only managed to collect 17 points in total at full time.
Charana Chamikara was adjudged player of the match.
