Sri Lankan swimmer Kyle Abeysinghe established new nationals records in the 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Freestyle event at the 13th FINA short course Swimming Championships in Ontario, Canada.
Kyle broke his brother Matthew’s record by clocking 1:50.15 in the 200m Freestyle event. Matthew Abeysinghe’s records stood for almost three years.
In the 200m Individual Medley event, Kyle clocked 2:04.17 to overtake the timing of 2:05.46 set by Heshan Unamboowe. Heshan’s record was set in 2012.
Olympic swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe’s injury restricted him from participating in the ongoing short course Swimming Championships.
