Kyle Abeysinghe was the only Sri Lankan athlete to win a medal at the recently concluded Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. He became the first Sri Lankan to win a medal at any Commonwealth event in swimming.
Abeysinghe finished the 50m Freestyle event in 23.38 secs and the 100m Freestyle event in 50.93 secs. However, he failed to get past the preliminary round in the 200m Freestyle event. Abeysinghe was placed 6th.
A total of 27 Sri Lankan athletes participated in the event but Kyle was the sole medal winner for the country.
Sri Lanka got the better of host nation the Bahamas to finish 5th in rugby. Samoa defeated England to win gold.
England won the overall championship with a total of 17 gold medals.
