Bangladesh’s most experienced set of batsman Monimul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad made it look ever so easy in the middle, posting a massive first innings score of 513 in 129 overs on Day 2 of the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at Chittagong.
Monimul made 176 in just 214 but Mahmudullah batted with the tail, absorbing the pressure to take the score past 500 earlier today.
Winning the toss and batting first, the home team accumulated runs at a good rate to put pressure on the Sri Lankan front line bowlers. They made good use of the conditions throughout the course of Day 1.
The partnership between Monimul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim swung the game in favor of Bangladesh. The late Mahmudullah show was doubtlessly the icing on the cake for the home team.
Rangana Herath and Suranga Lakmal bagged three wickets each for Sri Lanka.
In response, the visitors are already a wicket down for 21 in less than 10 overs. Dimuth Karunaratne was dismissed by Mehedi Hasan for a duck.
The pitch appears to have flattened offering plenty of turn for the Bangladesh spinners, even with the shiny new red ball. Sri Lanka will have to bat long and deep to post a formidable total in this wicket.
As it stands, the tigers are well on top and on course to dominate this game.
