Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh in the 6th match of the Bangladesh tri national series later today at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. With three back to back wins, the hosts are already through to the all-important finals on Sunday.
However, Zimbabwe’s late defeat to Bangladesh has made things less complicated for the men in blue.
A win today for Sri Lanka will put them through to the finals without a doubt. However, a defeat will narrow it down to net run rate.
Can Sri Lanka lose and still qualify to play in the finals?
Failing to beat Bangladesh, Sri Lanka will have to lose only by a very narrow margin.
- Batting first – If Bangladesh hunt Sri Lanka’s target down in less than 38 overs, Zimbabwe will go through.
- Bowling first – Sri Lanka will have lose by 70 or less to qualify when chasing.
However, this equation should not bother Sri Lanka as they are a much better side, capable of competing against any good side in the world. One other factor that might affect Sri Lanka’s fate is the weather.
Pitch and Conditions
Conditions are expected to remain the less with temperatures only reaching the low 20-degree Celsius range. If Sri Lanka win the toss, they’ll definitely decide to bat first.
