The exciting weekend of school rugby came to a close as Isipathana College got the better of resilient St Anthony’s College Kandy 43-35 in yesterday’s thriller at Havelock Park.
Isipathana displayed master class with some exciting rugby to finish 24-13 at the end of the first half. The first few minutes of the second half was indeed a treat to watch as Pathana exploded with impressive passes and sprints.
The Antonians kept coming with tremendous intent but the organized Pathana defense kept their heads high to finish 43-35.
Missing a number of conversions, last season’s highest scorer Antonian Maduwantha had a bad day in office. Unbeaten in three games so far, the Pathanians are establishing themselves as favorites for this year’s title.
SL Under 19 speedster Harith Bandara scored three tries and Rankothge, Chamod Fernando, Vinoga Keshawa and Devin Gunaratne scored a try each for Isipathana College.
Meanwhile, Wesley College shocked S Thomas’ Mount Lavinia defeating them 23-19. Science College got the better of Prince of Wales (69-03) and St.Peter’s outclassed D.S Senanayake 36-05.
