An excellent finish in the second half of extra-time led Manchester United to the semi-finals of the Europa League at Old Trafford last evening. The Red Devils won 2-1 to finish 3-2 in aggregate over Anderlecht.
However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo picked up injuries trying to win the ball in the course of the game. Ibrahimovic appeared to have hyperextended his right knee when landing on an attempt to win a lofted ball.
“I want to wait. My feeling is not great for both. I want to be optimistic, but I’m not. I can’t say any more than that, I am not a doctor. Fairly negative. I think,” said Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave Manchester United an early lead with an excellent finish in the 10th minute of the first half. Sofiane Hanni pulled one back in the 32nd minute for Anderlecht. The Belgians did quite well but the Red Devils always had the edge.
Marcus Rashford’s 107th-minute goal steered the hosts to a hard-fought win.
The three other teams to qualify were Ajax (Netherlands), Celta Vigo (Spain) and Lyon (France). The red devils have never won the Europa League/Uefa Cup.
