As health issues prevented the President of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Kazi Salahuddin, the former president of the Sri Lankan Football Federation, Ranjith Rodrigo took over proceedings at the council’s executive committee meeting held in Trivandrum last Saturday.
While the development of the sport remained as a key factor during discussion, several other initiatives for the year 2016 was brought forward as well.
In a statement released by the Sri Lankan Football Federation, it’s said, “A very productive meeting was held with proposals from member associations focusing on the development of football within the South Asian region, with the support of the SAFF sponsor World Sport Group.”
Together with the preparations for the SAFF Championships in 2017, discussions were believed to be conducted in financial aspects as well.
As far as finance is concerned, it was agreed that a sum of $25,000 was accepted to be granted to all member associations as preparation subsidy inclusive of Host Member Association.
Meanwhile, the preparation subsidy for SAFF Men’s U16, U19 and Women’s championship was reported to have increased from $5,000.00 to $10,000.00.
The next executive meeting is expected to be held on the 25th of February in Zurich, Switzerland.
Ranjith Rodrigo’s visit certainly did not end with the meeting as he was invited to be present at the Awards Ceremony of the recently concluded SAFF Championship.
