At full time, the score was nil-all but Royal College capitalised on a rare miss from Senal De Alwis to win 5-3 in penalties in the 24th annual ‘Blue Derby’ Football Encounter at the CR & FC grounds over the weekend.
S.Thomas’ College was full of confidence after their 1-0 win over Trinity College whereas the Royalists failed to break the shackles and was forced to a nil-all draw.
In the Derby, S.Thomas’ College created plenty of chances exploiting the Royal defence but failed to find the back of the net. At the end of the first half the score was nil-all.
Royal dominated possession and threatened the Thomian goal in the second half but they too failed to get the ball past the goalie.
Eventually, Ashraff Ali capitalised on Senal’s missed penalty to take Royal College to an exciting 5-3 win. Mohamed Shishan was adjudged most valuable player. Ishrath Raji won an award for the best goalie.
Royal College went on to win the junior matches U11, U13 and U15.
