When the retired big guns fancied the ongoing Indian Premier League, Kumar Sangakkara did what he does best as his well-constructed ton saved Surrey, enabling them to draw their First Class game against Lancashire at The Oval yesterday.
Batting first, Lancashire made 470 for 10 in the first innings. West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Jordan Clark scored centuries as Mark Footitt bagged 5 for Surrey.
In response, Rory Burns and Kumar Sangakkara helped Surrey to 319 in 125 overs. However, they failed to avoid the follow-on.
In the second innings, Surrey lost two quick wickets but Sanga resisted alongside Scott Borthwick. He made 136 in 190 deliveries with 11 fours under his name. He was dismissed by Kerrigan in the 90th over.
This is Sanga’s final year with Surrey county.
