Rohit Sharma’s spectacular ton led India to another series win as they outsmarted Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the 3rd One Day International played at the Pallekale International Stadium last evening.
Sri Lanka had the upper hand at one point in the two games at Pallekale but Dhoni’s experience helped the visitors come out on top.
Batting first, Lahiru Thirimanne’s steady innings took Sri Lanka to 217 for 9 in 50 overs. Dinesh Chandimal was a little too slow with the bat and the total was below average.
Jasprit Bumrah bagged 5 for 27 in his 10 overs for the visitors.
In response, India lost 4 for 61 but Sharma and Dhoni helped the side recover in the middle overs of the game. However, Bumrah was adjudged player of the match.
“I thought it was a good wicket, so put some score on the board and hopefully, we can defend, and like the last game, we hoped it would grip a bit in the evening. Things didn’t go to our plans. We discussed not playing dot balls in the middle overs, but things didn’t work out. 260-275 would have been a challenging score. I enjoyed captaincy – it was pressure, but I enjoyed it, and hopefully we can win next time,” said the losing skipper Chamara Kapugedara.
