Three Sri Lankan impact players in the recently concluded Under-19 World Cup suffered suspension from The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) for violating the code of conduct for players in a domestic cricket tournament. The victims of suspension were Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Avishka Fernando.
All three players performed magnificently in the recent past and certainly did seem like the future of Sri Lanka Cricket. While Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka played for Richmond College, Avishka Fernando represented St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa.
The reason behind the suspension remained in the fact that the players disrespectfully questioned an umpire’s decision at a quarter-final clash between Richmond College and S. Thomas’ College.
Hence, the three players face a two-match ban as they were undoubtedly found guilty.
