Two domestic pink ball day/night Tests between Colombo and Kandy, Galle and Dambulla got underway in Hambantota and Dambulla last afternoon.
At the end of the first day’s play, the two bowling sides were on top as the wicket favored the spinners from either side. Galle dismissed Dambulla for 244, Colombo bowled Kandy out for just 270 in 77 overs.
The Southerners are 2 down 38 whilst Colombo are 37 for no loss at lunch on Day 2.
Colombo vs Kandy at Hambantota
Batting first, Kandy lost openers Mahela Udawatte and Tharanga Paranavitharana for 0 and 1. Charith Asalanka and Niroshan Dickwella reconstructed the innings but Dickwella was run out for 38. 22-year-old Priyamal Perera took the score past 100 and both batsmen got to their fifties.
Asalanka was dismissed for 57, Priyamal was bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga for 79.
Hasaranga went on to pick 4 for 40 in just 9 overs for Colombo. Kandy lost all 10 wickets for 270 in 77 overs.
In response, Colombo are none down for 37 in 10 overs. They still trail by 233 runs with 10 wickets in hand.
Galle vs Dambulla at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium
Dammika Prasad had Dimuth Karunaratne for a duck but Kusal Mendis’s 89 followed by a couple of 20s down the order took the home side to 244 in the 73rd over.
Chathuranga De Silva picked 3 for 31 in 10 over Galle.
In response, The Southerners are 2 down for just 38 in the 7th over at lunch. Lahiru Gamage and Vimukthi Perera bagged a wicket each for Dambulla. Galle trail by 206 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
All four sides are level on points as the first two games concluded without a result. If the rain stays away, the two pink ball tests will surely produce a result by the end of the fourth day.
The 5th and the 6th game of the four day Test tournament will be played from the 21st to the 24th of April 2018.
