Sri Lanka got the better of six-time champions Pakistan, beating them 4-2 in an exciting final to win the West Asia Baseball Cup title in Islamabad on Wednesday the 1st of March 2017.
With the advantage of playing at home, the hosts were in good shape ahead of the all-important final. However, late drama helped Sri Lanka come off the hook to clinch an unbelievable win.
It was indeed a dream come true for Sri Lankan skipper Akalanka Ranasinghe, who scored on of his team’s four runs.
“The tournament was a tough one for us. But we’ve been dreaming of this moment. Pakistan have a very decent team. They have been playing tournaments on Asian level so we are glad to have finally beat them,” said Ranasinghe.
Meanwhile, Iran defeated Nepal 10-6 to take third place.
