The Finance minister disclosed Sri Lanka’s desire to host South Asian Games (SAG) 2020 at the recently concluded budget announcement.
Therefore, the government allocated a sum of Rs. 1500 million to renovate the Diyagama Athletic Stadium and work is set to commence with immediate notice.
With the intention of developing each sport, the ministry is set to enhance training procedures with the newest equipment in Diyagama.
India hosted the last edition of the South Asian Games and the next edition was set to take place in Kathmandu, Nepal from March 9-18 in 2019. However, with Nepal backing out, the organisers will most likely call the event off.
Moreover, a sum of Rs. 100 million was allocated for the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and 1200 million for the main stadium revealed the budget.
