Upul Tharanga with another top knock helped Galle squeeze past Dambulla in match 10 of the ongoing Sri Lanka Cricket Super Provincial ODI series at Colombo last evening.
Lahiru Thirimanne with a match-winning 90 steered Colombo to a 92 run win over Kandy in match 9.
With 4 wins in the 5 games played, the southerners are 4 points ahead of Colombo in the points table. In third place is Dambulla, 7 points below the league leaders.
Colombo vs Kandy in Colombo – Match 09
After being put on the bat first, the Colombo top order made good use of the conditions losing just 4 for 241 in the 40th over of the innings. Shehan Jayasuriya, Chamara Silva, and Lahiru Thirimanne made half-centuries but Kusal Mendis was dismissed 3 runs short of his 50.
Thirimanne made 90 in just 61 balls with 6 sixes and 3 fours under his name.
A lower middle order collapse restricted the home team to 309 for 8 in 50 overs. Sachith Pathirana picked 3 for 41 for Kandy.
In response, Danushka Gunathilaka and Chamara Kapugedara gave Kandy a good start but none of the other batsmen contributed to the cause. The visitors were all out for 217 in 48.3.
Wanindu Hasaranga picked 4 for 43 in 10 overs for Colombo.
Dambulla vs Galle at Colombo – Match 10
A useful half-century and a couple of 40s in the middle order carried Dambulla to 287 for 10 in 47 overs. Sachitra Senanayake made 65 in 60.
Malinda Pushpakumara and Dasun Shanaka picked 3 a piece for Galle.
In response, Upul Tharanga made good use of the power play before Ashan Priyanjan and Dasun Shanaka took Galle to 218 for 3 in 37.3, 15 runs ahead when rain stopped play in Colombo.
Tharanga made 57 in just 26 with 4 sixes and 7 fours under his name.
Sachithra Serasinghe picked 2 for 23 in 5 overs for Dambulla.
Dambulla will take on Kandy in match 11 while Galle plays Colombo at P.Sara Oval and the R Premadasa Stadium on the 17th of May 2018.
