Tharjini Sivalingam, the country’s best ever Netball player left to Australia for six months of playing and training with the City West Falcons in Melbourne. However, the 35-year-old still dreams of returning to the Sri Lankan nations side in the near future.
In 2014, Tharjini was forced to leave the national side due to disagreement with the officials in the country.
She continued to pursue with netball, playing for Seylan Bank at the Mercantile Netball Championship each year. Six years ago, Tharjini was adjudged Best Shooter at the World Netball Championships.
By doing well in Australia, Tharjini intends to return to the national side to take Sri Lanka to a world title.
“There’s no place I love more than my motherland. I am what I am today because I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to play for Sri Lanka. My dream has always been to play for Sri Lanka. It has never changed a bit. Given the chance, I would be delighted to help Sri Lanka do better,” she said. (Daily Mirror).
