The Green Machine (Isipathana) will take on the Bamba Brigade (St.Peter’s) on the 07th of April (Saturday) at Havelock Park where two unbeaten teams will contend for the top spot of Segment 2A.
This will be the 46th rugby league encounter played between the two schools. Taking a look at the history between these two great rugby playing institutions – The first ever encounter was played in the year 1963 and St.Peter’s captained by Stephan Alagaratnam defeated Isipathana led by Brian Ingram by 06 points to nil in their first ever schools rugby season.
Isipathana’s first victory against St.Peter’s was recorded in 1968 after five long years, when the team captained by Jurangan Savanghan beat St.Peter’s led by Ronnie Gunaratne 03 points to nil.
In the 45 league encounters played so far, Isipathana takes the lead 24 to 18 wins. And 03 matches played in 1971, 1982 & 2014 have ended without a result. Isipathana holds the highest and the lowest scores in the series, In 1998 Isipathana scored the highest by beating St. Peter’s 53 points to nil and the lowest was scored in 1968 when Isipathana beat St.Peter’s by 3 points to nil.

St.Peter’s managed to beat Isipathana last year by 32 points to 15 when the lads from Bambalapitiya tasted victory after 06 years. Isipathana seemed on course to defend their title but the loss against the Peterites meant they had to be satisfied with a 02nd place finish.
Unlike, last year, this time around Isipathana will be fielding a younger side which is captained by 17-year-old Manilka Ruberu.
