Sri Lanka Cricket appointed Thisara Perera as captain for the three-match one day international and twenty20 series against India after the final test at Delhi on Saturday.
Perera will replace top order batsman Upul Tharanga who suffered a humiliating loss against Pakistan in the UAE.
Despite losing the Twenty20 series in the UAE and Lahore, Perera was given credit for his brave approach and fighting instincts, leading a young side over no.1 ranked Pakistan.
Moreover, Thisara is in good allround form with a couple of match-winning performances in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. However, Sri Lanka will have to find a way to include Kusal Janith Perera, Asela Gunarathne, and Danushka Gunathilaka to strengthen the lower middle order.
Sadeera Samarawickrama or Kusal Mendis should play as replacements for Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne.
How Sri Lanka should line up against India in ODI Cricket –
Upul Tharanga, Niroshan Dickwella, Danushka Gunathilaka, Sadeera Samarawickrama/Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne, Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera (C), Akila Dhananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Malinga.
